Mt. Neebo, Jordan (May 17th)

So we hopped off the plane, waited for our luggage, hopped on a bus and immediately headed to our first location. Mt. Neebo.

It was a fun location to start, it wasn’t super hot yet and so we all welcomed being able to get out and stretch our legs. Here are some of the things that were at this location.
This is a stone similar to the one that was on the tomb of Jesus.
These are pieces of a mosaic.
This represents the snake that Moses put on a staff to have people look at to be healed.
People would tie napkins/tissues to trees to represent their prayer requests.

After Mt. Neebo we hopped on the bus and took a nice relaxing bus ride to our hotel in the center of Amman, Jordan. Hotels are pretty different here…they have all been really hospitable. The most interesting thing about this hotel was the elevators. These elevators close SUPER fast and unlike our elevators they don’t stop if they close on something unless you use all your strength to push them back open. There are many stories of luggage, shoes, and arms getting stuck. I even had it close right on me, it kind of hurt my shoulders.
Once we were all settled in, it was time for my first experience with Jordanian food. I’m trying not to be as picky because I know that will make things difficult, but I’m still not as daring as I should be. In every place we have gone there has always been hummus, pita bread, vegetables, olives, and hard boiled eggs. There has been lots of rice too, the rice was pretty decent here but I basically ate some eggs, bread, and carrots. It made me full though, so I was happy.

The big thing that has been emphasized on this trip is drinking tons and tons and tons of water. In Jordan you are not supposed to drink the water so the buses had water for us. They were normal size water bottles but we heard that there was a local grocer near by that had LARGE water bottles and you could get a six pack for only $1.30 american. Me and my roommate Sarah decided we couldn’t pass that up so we found us a guy (because girls aren’t allowed to go out alone) and we walked down behind the road behind the hotel and found us the E-mart. It was funny how much we stood out, me and Sarah had everyone staring at us. We kind of just explored the store for awhile but once we got our water we handed Will some money (because we heard that they are more likely to rip off a girl then a guy), bought our water and headed back to the hotel. Those giant water bottles were definitely worth it!!

Our wake up call was going to be at 6:15am so we headed to bed soon after that and in the morning we had breakfast. Once again for me, it consisted of Pita Bread, eggs, and cream cheese. Then we piled into the bus and headed to Petra.
